- ➤ Spartanburg Community College received over $1.15 million in public and private funding to expand workforce training and build a state-of-the-art clean room facility at its Spark Center. - ➤ South Carolina health officials reported the season's first pediatric flu death in the Upstate region on Jan. 7 + 25 flu-related deaths have been recorded this season from 15,589 lab-confirmed tests, and officials extend condolences to the affected family. WYFF
- ➤ Upstate midwives mourn the loss of Dr. Janell Green Smith, a respected midwife with Prisma Health who died from childbirth complications on Jan. 7.
