BUSINESS NEWS

  • A WARN report from SC Works says Milliken's Cedar Hill plant in Union County will close later this year - leading to 126 layoffs starting in April - while other local businesses are expected to cut over 600 jobs statewide.  WYFF

CULTURE NEWS

  • South Carolina native Andie MacDowell traveled back to the Carolinas to film the Hallmark Christmas movie A Grand Biltmore Christmas at the historic Biltmore in Asheville—she will join Countdown to Christmas programming.  Go Upstate
  • Spartanburg celebrates Black History Month with a free public library event featuring Karen McDowell at Landrum Library on Feb. 10 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Art Museum hosts Culture & Cocktails on Feb. 20 at 200 E. Saint John St. with $39.19 tickets.  Go Upstate

FINANCE NEWS

  • A local woman who played the same numbers every day won a $242,000 jackpot on Nov. 11 when her Palmetto Cash 5 ticket matched all the drawn numbers at Sai Mart on Blackstock Rd. She said the win helped her cover important expenses.  WYFF

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina Representatives passed a bill to restrict access to certain medications, and one local man won Super Bowl LX tickets and will take his dad on a trip of a lifetime.  WYFF

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Feb. 6, Spartanburg County’s measles outbreak has exceeded 900 cases with 19 hospitalizations and no deaths. Officials reported a 162% vaccine jump in January and will run free mobile clinics on Feb. 13 at Zion Hill Baptist Church and March 3 at Grace Community Church.  Go Upstate
  • Local researchers confirmed at the start of this year that an at-home finger-prick test accurately measures Alzheimer’s biomarkers from 337 trial participants with a promising signal toward less-invasive screening. The breakthrough, announced by the Banner Health Foundation in Greenville, could improve early detection.  WYFF

SPORTS NEWS

  • Byrnes boys basketball defeated Dorman 74-72 on Feb. 6 in a close game, with Colt Fowler scoring 25 points and Aaden Bruton-Smith scoring 28 for Dorman.  Go Upstate
  • Dorman girls basketball team overcame a 15-point gap to win 67-62 against Byrnes on Feb. 6 as Ri Wallace scored 18 points in the third quarter—sparking their comeback.  Go Upstate
