ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Integrated Drought Information System projects that drought in Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson counties will intensify to extreme levels in February, risking crop losses and water shortages. Showers forecast for Saturday, Feb. 21, may offer some relief amid dry winter conditions.  Go Upstate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spartanburg Water has partnered with Service Line Warranties of America to educate homeowners on service line responsibilities and introduce protection plans for water and sewer lines (covering repairs by local contractors). The program is voluntary, does not change utility service, and today offers added choice for managing home repairs.  Spartanburg.com
  • A new bill, the App Store Accountability Act, is under review by the House Energy and Commerce Committee and may soon help parents control the apps children download. SC Rep. Russell Fry (7th District) supports the measure that would require app stores to ask for parental consent and strengthen age ratings.  Spartanburg.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • South Carolina shoppers are urged to check labels on peanut butter products as Ventura Foods recalls over 23,000 items for possible plastic contamination — the FDA classified the recall as Class II for temporary health risks and advises discarding or returning affected items.  Go Upstate
