COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A six-pound baby boy was born in a car at an intersection in Travelers Rest when the Slater-Marietta Fire Department responded on Feb.15 to assist the family. Firefighters said they provided care and comfort during this unique birth (a special local moment).  WYFF

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Upstate schools break for spring with different schedules: Anderson County Schools from March 30-April 3, Greenville County Schools from March 16-April 10, and Spartanburg County Schools with most districts taking break April 6-10 while District 3’s break runs April 5-11.  Go Upstate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters in Pickens County continue to learn from the nearly one-year-old Table Rock wildfire that burned about 15,000 acres from March 21 to April 9. With wildfire season starting soon, state and local teams have upgraded equipment and training to better handle future fires.  WYFF

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Riverside boys basketball team won the SCHSL Class 5A Division 2 quarterfinal game against Fort Mill on Feb. 23, led by Cam Dather (#4 with 19 points) and Sebi Boyogueno (#3 with 24 points).  Go Upstate
  • In 2026, the Hub City Spartanburgers will host 66 games and 75+ events, featuring a March high school tournament, college games like the Battle of the Burg, and Banana Ball on Aug. 6-8 at Fifth Third Park. The team will gain from Project Core + a $542 million downtown redevelopment.  The Post and Courier
  • Upstate Ingles invites locals to vote for its high school girls Athlete of the Week for Feb. 16-22. The contest features standout performances from wrestlers Makayla Vasser and Cienna Heiselman and basketball player Lola Kelly (among others) in recent state events.  Go Upstate
  • Jacob Bridgeman, an Inman native and Clemson alum, won his first PGA Tour event at the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles on Feb. 22, finishing at -18 (earning $4 million) while overcoming a six stroke lead to outlast Rory McIlroy and Kurt Kitayama.  WYFF
  • Mountain View Prep’s boys basketball team advanced to the Upper State finals after a 49-30 win over St- Joseph’s Catholic on Feb. 23 at Greer Middle College. The team in its second season will face Christ Church on Feb. 27.  Go Upstate
