BUSINESS NEWS

  • Breeze Airways is set to add non-stop flights from GSP to Fort Lauderdale starting July 2 and to Cincinnati starting July 3. The Fort Lauderdale route operates Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays with one-way fares from $49, while the Cincinnati schedule runs on Mondays and Fridays with fares from $139.  Go Upstate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A total lunar eclipse, sometimes called a blood moon, will be visible on March 3 from about 4-7 a.m. EST in Spartanburg as Earth's shadow gives the moon a reddish hue. Skywatchers should plan ahead to view this natural event.  Go Upstate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina residents will set clocks forward on Sunday, March 8 to observe daylight saving time, with clocks moving from 2 to 3 a.m. Experts advise making gradual adjustments to sleep schedules to ease the transition (federal law requires the change).  Go Upstate

HEALTH NEWS

  • DPH reported six new measles cases in Spartanburg County on Feb. 24, showing signs of a slowing outbreak. Free MMR vaccinations will be provided on March 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Grace Community Church on Magnolia Street.  Go Upstate
  • Local doctors say they lack complete data on measles hospitalizations because hospitals are not required to report them - only a few facilities have shared numbers amid 973 cases and 20 reported admissions, raising concerns that the true impact is hidden.  Spartanburg.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • St. Joseph’s Catholic girls basketball team, led mostly by sophomores, advanced to the Upper State championship after a 59-8 win over Woodruff on Feb. 24 at their home court — they will play Walhalla on Feb. 28 in a rematch of last year’s final.  Go Upstate
  • The Hub City Spartanburgers have extended their partnership with Ghost Brands (their agency of record) for the 2026 season. The deal builds on a relationship established in 2023 and prepares the team for its second season at Fifth Third Park.  Spartanburg.com
  • SCHSL basketball Upper State finals will occur on Friday, Feb. 27 and Saturday, Feb. 28 at locations such as Wofford College (Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium) for the Class 5A D2 Boys game and several TBA sites for other matchups with select games starting at 7:30 p.m.  Go Upstate
  • The Bassmaster Classic returns to Lake Hartwell for its record fifth visit from March 19–21, 2027. The tournament — known as the Super Bowl of Bass Fishing — is expected to boost local tourism and the economy after drawing nearly 155,000 fans and generating over $25 million in 2022.  Go Upstate
  • On Feb. 22, Clemson women's basketball clinched a 53-51 win over No. 9 Duke at Littlejohn Coliseum when guard Hannah Kohn hit a game-winning 3-pointer. The victory boosts the Tigers' chances of earning an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time since 2019 as they prepare for upcoming contests.  The Post and Courier
