BUSINESS NEWS

  • South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that as part of a $100 million settlement over deceptive pay practices, Walmart will pay its Spark Driver delivery drivers in the state roughly $1 million each. Walmart must also implement an earnings verification program & report annually for 10 years.  WYFF
  • A recent American Consumer Satisfaction Index study shows that Trader Joe’s is the top grocery store nationally while Sam’s Club leads in the Carolinas thanks to its Scan + Go technology. South Carolina shoppers value quick checkouts and fresh produce as key parts of their store experience.  Go Upstate
  • Breeze Airways is expanding at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) with new routes to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky and Fort Lauderdale. The Cincinnati flight begins July 3 on Mondays and Fridays while Fort Lauderdale service starts July 2 on Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays.  Spartanburg.com
  • Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport was named North America's best small airport for the fourth time by the Airports Council International based on ease of navigation, cleanliness, dedicated staff, and an enjoyable atmosphere – the honor recognizes airports serving 2 to 5 million passengers.  Go Upstate

CULTURE NEWS

  • Memorial services for Rev. Jesse Jackson are scheduled nationwide over the next two weeks; in South Carolina, a public remembrance + church service will be held Monday, Mar. 2 at the State Capitol in Columbia to honor the Greenville native.  Go Upstate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • USC Upstate celebrated its 59th birthday on Feb. 19 at the Campus Life Center as faculty, staff and alumni gathered for Founders Day (sponsored by Spartanburg County Commission for Higher Education). The event honored three community members while Chancellor Bennie Harris noted the university’s growth ahead of its 60th anniversary.  Spartanburg.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, Spartanburg County Council announced they would vote no on tax credits for Project Spero — a $3 billion data center proposal — as state lawmakers plan new data center regulations. County officials will discuss the project further at a special meeting today at 3 p.m.  WYFF

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Feb. 26, Hillcrest football promoted offensive line coach Amos Lamb to head coach, replacing Bennett Swygert who resigned to lead Clover High School. Lamb will guide the Rams when they play a road game at Dorman on Aug. 21.  Go Upstate
  • Pendleton's manufacturing facility that uses nanoneedle scope 2.0 technology (60% smaller than traditional) helped Team USA goalie Connor Hellebuyck recover quickly so he could secure a gold medal win at the Olympics. Hellebuyck saved 41 shots in the game.  WYFF
