GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Feb. 26, Spartanburg County Council voted to block tax incentives for a $3B TigerDC data center, deferring new tax breaks for data centers until state laws regulate them. TigerDC warned it might relocate the project if the deal fails to pass.  The Post and Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • Spartanburg has reported nearly 1,000 measles cases since October while health officials note a decline in new cases, though some patients remain hospitalized. State Sen. Kimbrell hosted a town hall on Feb. 26 at the Boiling Springs Fire Department — where vaccine safety and exemptions sparked debate.  Go Upstate
  • Health officials confirmed six new measles cases linked to a local school and Costco with 61 people in quarantine. They will offer a free mobile MMR clinic on March 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Grace Community Church to help stop the outbreak.  Go Upstate

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Zeplin, a new speakeasy in the Montgomery Building, opens this month in Spartanburg while Fountain Inn’s Hail Mary Sports Grill rebrands for game viewing and pub fare, and Local Fairway in Simpsonville launches Saturday with 24-hour indoor golf bays (with Trackman simulators and rentals).  WYFF

SPORTS NEWS

  • Freshman starter Ty Young scored 11 crucial points—including a game-winning three-pointer—as Christ Church beat Mountain View Prep 61-47 in the state semifinals on Feb. 27. The team will play for the state championship on Mar. 6 at Colonial Life Arena.  Go Upstate
  • South Carolina guard Tessa Johnson practiced on Feb. 27 after missing a game with an upper body contusion; coach Dawn Staley has not confirmed if she will play Kentucky on March 1 (2 p.m. ET). Johnson is a key player for the Gamecocks.  Go Upstate
