CULTURE NEWS

  • The South Carolina Entertainment and Music Hall of Fame plans to raise $30 million to build a mixed-use entertainment and educational complex in the Upstate aimed to open by 2031, including a performance hall, recording studio, restaurant & microbrewery that could generate $35 million annually.  Go Upstate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Strong storms hit the Upstate yesterday with heavy rain, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes, and severe weather is expected today to delay morning commutes in Spartanburg and nearby areas.  WYFF

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • GSP is collecting non-perishable food and household supplies for TSA + CBP workers affected by the partial government shutdown. Donations can be dropped off at the valet station near the airport entrance.  Go Upstate

HEALTH NEWS

  • South Carolina residents may soon face gnat swarms as temperatures climb above 70°F, and experts advise daily insecticide use and porch screening (with 18x16 mesh) to counter biting and eye gnats ahead of spring.  Go Upstate
  • Costco recalled select Meatloaf with Mashed Yukon Potatoes and Glaze meals sold from March 2 to March 13 due to a possible Salmonella risk from an ingredient supplier; customers should check labels and return the product for a refund. No illnesses were reported with the recalled meals.  WYFF

SPORTS NEWS

  • Duke basketball will begin its NCAA Tournament in Greenville on March 19 at a first-round game against Siena, with a second-round match scheduled for March 21 at Bon Secours Arena; fans can buy tickets ahead of the games.  Go Upstate
  • NCAA Tournament first-round games will occur in Greenville on March 19 at Bon Secours Wellness Arena when Duke faces Siena at 2:50 p.m. and Ohio State plays TCU at 12:15 p.m. + experts predict a dominant performance by Duke and a close matchup in Ohio State vs TCU.  Go Upstate
