ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Southwest flight headed to Nashville declared an alert just after 8 p.m. Monday and returned safely to Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport — officials said.  WYFF

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hub City Press announced Monday, March 16 that it will publish Caleb Johnson's sophomore novel, Telegraph Road, in the fall of 2027. The novel uses archival images to explore family history in Southern Appalachia.  Spartanburg.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, farmers in Chesnee covered strawberries with special blankets to raise temperatures by 4 to 6 degrees and protect crops during a killer cold snap—experts warned that tree crops like peaches remain vulnerable due to recent warm weather.  WYFF

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mount Washington resident David Betts created an AI-driven app called Talk To Me, Goose (named after a Top Gun line) after his ALS diagnosis to preserve his voice. The app uses your own voice and is free on mobile devices in the U.S. and Canada, with plans to expand globally.  WYFF
  • State health officials have sent letters to public school superintendents in the Upstate region to name a contact available during spring break so measles exposures can be quickly traced. Only 11 of 23 superintendents have responded so far—this step follows a winter break outbreak in Spartanburg County.  Spartanburg.com

  • Vote for Upstate Ingles girls athlete of the week by casting multiple votes online until noon on March 19.
