- ➤ A junior version of Wade’s Family Restaurant opened earlier this week in Spartanburg County at 3008 Reidville Road — currently serving only online orders — and will offer indoor dining soon. WYFF
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Due to high demand, rap icon Lil Wayne extended his tour to include a show in Greenville on Sept. 24 at Bon Secours Wellness Arena with special guest 2 Chainz, and tickets start with a Citi presale (starting March 18) ahead of the general sale. WYFF
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Spartanburg County School District 6 is asking voters to borrow $395 million to expand capacity in aging schools. The bond referendum supports nine projects including two new elementary schools and one middle school, with a community forum at Dorman High School on March 19 and the vote on March 31. WYFF
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Spartanburg Water’s Landrum Drinking Water Treatment Plant was named Best Tasting Water in South Carolina at the annual conference in Myrtle Beach — its R.B. Simms facility also placed fourth among 14 state utilities and Landrum will later join top winners in a North American contest in Washington, D.C. Spartanburg.com
- ➤ Spring 2026 will begin on Friday, Mar. 20 at 10:46 a.m. when the vernal equinox makes day and night nearly equal in Greenville as rising temperatures signal a more welcoming season ahead for March Madness events. Go Upstate
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Due to the partial government shutdown, TSA staffing shortages have led to long security lines at major airports while Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport reports normal wait times. Travelers at larger hubs are advised to arrive three hours early to avoid delays. Go Upstate
- ➤ South Carolina lawmakers are moving to require a mobile panic button system in schools to alert for emergencies with one press (Greenville County Schools already uses a similar system). The bill passed the Senate education subcommittee on Wednesday, and funding will need to be addressed before it reaches the governor. WYFF
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Costco recalled its meatloaf with mashed Yukon potatoes after a supplier identified a possible salmonella risk; the kits (sold between March 2 and March 13) were available at locations including South Carolina, and customers can return them for a full refund. Go Upstate
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ High school boys' athletes achieved standout performances from March 16-22 as Dorman's Connor Wells struck out 10 batters and Spartanburg's Alex Bright had key plays in baseball while soccer stars Dawson Knight and Osvaldo Paniagua scored multiple goals in impressive wins. Go Upstate
- ➤ Furman and Clemson will start their NCAA Tournament games this week, with Furman playing at 10 p.m. Friday and Clemson’s men’s and women’s teams set for 6:50 p.m. Friday and 3:30 p.m. Saturday + fans excitedly watching their schools on the national stage. WYFF
