ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • South Carolina Highway Patrol responded at 6 a.m. Wednesday to a single-vehicle crash on Howell Road near Millbank Road in Wellford—where a 2020 Infiniti sedan lost control, hit a guardrail and a tree, and its driver was declared dead as the Coroner's Office has not yet released the driver’s identity.  WYFF
  • On March 9 at 10:52 p.m., a crash at the intersection of Reidville Road and Highway 417 in Spartanburg involved a Lincoln sedan and a Honda minivan—resulting in the on-scene death of Damarcus Alexander Porter, injuries for three, and the later death of minivan passenger Lillian Mae Garner on March 15 after organ donation procedures delayed reporting.  WYFF

BUSINESS NEWS

  • BMW Group has made its production network flexible so that each plant can switch between building gas, plug-in hybrid and electric cars—Plant Spartanburg built nearly half of the BMWs sold in the US in 2024 and will build fully-electric vehicles in 2026 alongside its current models. This move is set to help the company meet growing demand for electric cars across its global markets.  Spartanburg.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Spartanburg County School District 7 is demolishing the old McCracken Middle School to clear space for the new Jesse Boyd Elementary at Fernwood-Glendale Road—construction will begin in December and finish in July 2027. The new school will serve about 700 students and is funded by a $47 million bond referendum approved by voters.  The Post and Courier
  • Spartanburg 2 has narrowed its superintendent search to three finalists — Hillcrest Principal Patrick Jarrett, District 1 administrator Jason McCraw, and Darlington Superintendent Tim Newman, chosen from over 40 candidates. The Board will soon meet with each candidate as part of the ongoing selection process while Superintendent Lance Radford remains until the end of this school year.  The Post and Courier
