COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A pet food drive (intended to reduce abandoned animals) is scheduled soon in Spartanburg, inviting residents to donate supplies and support local shelters.  Go Upstate
  • WYFF News 4 aired an hour-long special that looked at food insecurity and highlighted local groups helping feed neighbors. The report showed how Second Harvest Food Bank (Spartanburg branch at 1503 Old Converse Road and Anderson branch) accepts donations to support these efforts.  WYFF

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Nineteen electric cooperatives approved a deal that sets five consumer protection rules for data center projects needing 20 megawatts, including a 15-year contract, prepayment for upgrades and early termination fees. Three projects are planned as utilities shift from case-by-case deals to standard practices + secure the power grid.  The Post and Courier

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • This spring, hikers enjoy Upstate trails of all levels, from a 7.2-mile loop at Table Rock in Pickens to Sassafras Mountain’s new observation tower for panoramic views * some parks like Jones Gap require reservations on weekends and holidays.  Go Upstate
  • Extreme drought continues in Spartanburg, Greenville, and Anderson counties, with conditions expected to persist for three months. The forecast shows no significant rain over the next seven days — sustained precipitation is needed for recovery.  Go Upstate

HEALTH NEWS

  • South Carolina officials warn that recalled ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula is still on store shelves and must be removed immediately — the product poses a serious infant botulism risk. Consumers finding the formula should notify SCDA as directed.  Go Upstate
  • On March 20, public health officials said no new measles cases were reported in Spartanburg even though the outbreak totals 997 confirmed cases since October. Health officials stress that it is not over—42 days without new cases are needed—and note that two people remain in quarantine.  Go Upstate
