COMMUNITY NEWS

  • New renderings were shown to the City Council Monday night for a plan to move Spartanburg’s historic clock tower to Barnett Park. Mayor Jerome Rice said the proposal will preserve the landmark while the city invites community feedback via email.  WYFF

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Melissa Marlowe, a first-grade teacher at Hendrix Elementary in Roebuck, was named Spartanburg Herald-Journal/Ingles Amazing Teacher for the Month today for her dedication and love for her 22 students. She credits her mother for inspiring her long-awaited teaching career.  Go Upstate
  • Spartanburg Community College and the Institute of Innovation signed a new HVAC articulation agreement for the 2026–27 academic year that lets high school students earn college credits toward certificates and associate degrees. The program will reduce higher education costs and support workforce readiness in Cherokee County & the broader region.  Spartanburg.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The South Carolina Forestry Commission issued a statewide Red Flag Fire Alert on March 24, urging residents to avoid outdoor burning due to low humidity + lingering fallen trees from Tropical Storm Helene. The alert remains until weather improves.  Go Upstate

HEALTH NEWS

  • Trader Joe's is recalling nearly 10 million pounds of its Vegetable Fried Rice in South Carolina due to possible glass contamination & related complaints. Local shoppers should check their freezers as over 400,000 cases are part of a nationwide pull.  Go Upstate
  • South Carolina’s measles outbreak, which began in October and has reached 997 cases, is expected to end on April 26 after officials reported no new infections recently (with two people in quarantine). Most cases occurred in Spartanburg County, where officials continue to promote MMR vaccinations.  Go Upstate
