ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters in South Carolina explain that wildfire containment means building a barrier to stop a fire from spreading—Chris Camacho of the Boiling Springs Fire Department said roads, rivers or dug trenches help keep the fire in check even if it is not fully out yet.  WYFF
  • Today, emergency crews face challenges as wind gusts up to 35 mph complicate wildfire efforts while an air quality alert is extended to six counties due to smoke drifting from Polk County fires—rain may fall by the weekend.  WYFF
  • Firefighters are battling wildfires at Table Rock State Park and Persimmon Ridge where about 500 homes are under voluntary evacuation orders and the Upstate has poor air quality — crews have built control lines but high winds and low humidity may worsen the spread. Authorities are investigating how four teenage hikers started the Table Rock fire while residents are told to follow local news for updates.  Go Upstate
