COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Protesters will hold No Kings demonstrations at several sites in Upstate on Saturday, March 28, including a gathering at Spartanburg (noon to 1:30 p.m.) to voice concerns over alleged power overreach.  Go Upstate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new South Carolina bill would let parents decide if their child brings an ABA therapist into the classroom to support students with autism — the measure passed the House and now sits in the Senate as experts say it could improve learning in local schools.  WYFF

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina lawmakers ratified the Smart Heart Act on Wednesday, requiring public and charter schools to install AEDs and revise emergency plans for heart emergencies. The bill now goes to Gov. Henry McMaster for final approval and will prompt schools to update their safety procedures.  WYFF

HEALTH NEWS

  • State epidemiologist Dr. Linda Bell said that after a week with no new measles cases, the outbreak remains at 997 with two in quarantine and 42 days (two 21-day periods) without cases are needed before it can be declared over; local schools have been alerted ahead of spring break.  WYFF

SPORTS NEWS

  • Zac Rich resigned as Spartanburg High School’s boys basketball coach on March 25 and will return as an assistant coach at Dorman High under Thomas Ryan. He led the Vikings for three seasons, finishing with a 41–39 record after a 17–11 season that ended with a playoff loss to Dorman.  Go Upstate
  • Clemson baseball, after a strong rivalry win over South Carolina, has lost 7 of its last 10 games after a Coastal Carolina defeat, and coach Bakich says the team must improve play & fix lineup gaps. South Carolina names interim coach Monte Lee.  The Post and Courier
