COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Residents across the Upstate are invited to rally to save the historic Greenville-Pickens Speedway. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at District Park on 201 Kay Drive in Easley and will feature Attorney General Alan Wilson & food trucks. WYFF
- ➤ Rabbit Sanctuary Inc. in Simpsonville is asking for $5,000 in donations to repair its aging facilities (including rusty, hard-to-open gates) so that more than two dozen rescued rabbits can continue living in safe conditions. WYFF
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, a railcar carrying ethylene at a Celanese facility in Enoree sparked a hazmat incident that led to a temporary closure of Highway 221 — local emergency teams later vented the railcar with a flare and confirmed there was no threat to nearby residents. WYFF
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Roger Newton, CEO of Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, discussed future plans to revitalize the historic venue (and boost local entertainment) during a recent interview. His remarks signal upcoming changes that could reshape community shows. Go Upstate
- ➤ Pickens County Museum of Art & History honors Easley native Captain Kimberly Hampton during Women's History Month with an exhibit showcasing artifacts from her military service. The exhibit is viewable Wednesday — Friday from 9 a.m. — 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. — 2 p.m. WYFF
- ➤ South Carolina Entertainment and Music Hall of Fame is planning a new complex to feature interactive exhibits (live concert hall, film studio, podcast studio, recording studio and restaurant) as board chairman Roy Costner said leaders in several counties have been consulted on possible locations. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A local proposal shows plans to relocate the Spartanburg clock tower and build an amphitheater at Barnett Park (details provided by reporter Baker Maultsby). Go Upstate
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Health officials said the COVID variant BA.3.2—nicknamed Cicada—was first diagnosed in January and now appears in South Carolina along with 24 other states and over 20 countries. Current vaccines continue to protect against this highly mutated strain, they noted. Go Upstate
- ➤ The SC Department of Public Health said no new measles infections occurred on March 27 and total cases in Spartanburg remain at 997 with one person in quarantine. Officials will track spring break travel and vaccinations as the outbreak could be declared ended on April 26 if no new cases occur. Go Upstate

- ➤ South Carolina’s Gamecocks play in the Sweet 16 today at 5:00 p.m. ET against Oklahoma. Coach Dawn Staley said a win could lead to an Elite Eight contest with her former team, Virginia + a rare matchup that highlights her storied career. Go Upstate
