CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A man died after being shot around 10:50 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of a Gaffney apartment complex—Javlin Everette De’Angelo Dawkins, 18 from Spartanburg was taken to Cherokee Medical Center where he later died, and officials said no suspect has been named as police believe the incident was isolated. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The state Forestry Commission said rain is forecast today and Monday to help fire crews contain the Table Rock and Persimmon Fires in our region. Officials noted that the rain will give firefighters more time to build containment lines—providing a chance to slow the fire's spread. Go Upstate
- ➤ Officials said the Table Rock Complex fire crossed into North Carolina — the largest wildfire seen in our upstate — after crews dropped the biggest chemical water loads in state history. State and local teams met on Saturday and now work to build stronger containment lines while facing extra fuel from Hurricane Helene. WSPA
- ➤ The South Carolina Forestry Commission said the Table Rock wildfire has grown to over 12,000 acres and is now the largest wildfire in Upstate history, breaking the record set in 2016. Emergency crews are working to protect homes and structures as they evacuate residents in Pickens, Greenville and Transylvania Counties. WYFF
- ➤ The Table Rock Complex Fire has burned over 11,000 acres with 0% containment as firefighters work on the north side near the North Carolina line and maintain evacuation orders. Crews are using burnout operations today along the eastern perimeter—while officials hope rain later today and Monday will slow the fire's spread. Go Upstate
