ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ At about 11:50 p.m. Saturday a driver left Union Street near Cedar Springs Road and hit a concrete barrier—it killed the driver and injured four others—as reported by the state highway patrol. WSPA
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On March 21, four teenagers were accused of starting a wildfire at Table Rock that burned over 11,000 acres and was 9% contained by Saturday—authorities are investigating the negligent act while a statewide burn ban remains in effect due to dry conditions. Go Upstate
- ➤ At 10:50 p.m., Javlin Everette De’Angelo Dawkins from Spartanburg was shot outside Limestone Courts in Gaffney and was later pronounced dead at Cherokee Medical Center—Gaffney Police say the shooting appears isolated. WSPA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters in upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina are battling wildfires at Table Rock State Park—Table Rock Fire is 9% contained and Persimmon Ridge Fire is 24% contained as of Saturday afternoon. - ➤ Hundreds of firefighters from across the U.S. battled large wildfires in the Carolinas last Sunday, with three active fires in South Carolina—including the Table Rock Fires that peaked at nearly 11,000 acres—and four in North Carolina where 750 homes in Transylvania County were ordered to evacuate. Burn bans remain in effect in both states and some areas in North Carolina expect rain to help slow the flames. Go Upstate
- ➤ A severe wildfire that began March 21 has burned nearly 13,000 acres in mountain forests, with 11,468 acres from the Table Rock fire and 2,078 from the Persimmon Ridge fire—firefighters reported 9% and 24% containment respectively as evacuation orders eased and forecasted rain today may help control the blaze.
