- ➤ The South Carolina Board of Education will vote today on banning 10 books from school classrooms and libraries following a unanimous recommendation from the Instructional Materials Review Committee on March 13—board members will consider the proposal after challenges to 27 books under a regulation addressing sexual conduct in instructional materials—. - ➤ A bipartisan bill in the state house will make free school breakfast and lunch permanent for low-income students under the National School Lunch Program—eligibility includes receiving benefits like Medicaid, SNAP or TANF. Lawmakers said the measure builds on a practice in place for the past 2 years—if passed it will expand free meal access in schools. WSPA

- ➤ Over the weekend, firefighters made progress containing the Table Rock wildfire that burned over 11,400 acres and reached 9% containment—rain helped strengthen fire lines despite ongoing mandatory evacuations for some residents. - ➤ Today, the South Carolina Forestry Commission kept a burn ban in place in Spartanburg, Greenville, Horry, Oconee and Pickens counties even though the statewide ban was lifted on Monday.
