CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Charles Ray Blevins, 38, was arrested on March 31 at a home on Coach Hill Drive in Gaffney after he broke his leg while fleeing; he was a fugitive wanted for first degree murder, firearm possession and a parole violation and was set to join the 15 Most Wanted list—he is now in U.S. Marshals custody. - ➤ U.S. Marshals arrested 38-year-old Charles Ray Blevins in a Gaffney house Monday after he attempted to flee and broke his leg, and he is wanted for first-degree murder along with firearm and parole violations; he will remain in custody pending extradition to Kentucky. WSPA

- ➤ Spartanburg leaders introduced Project 100 on Wednesday to help daycare centers expand capacity and serve 100 more preschool children—this collaborative effort by OneSpartanburg, Inc., Power Up Spartanburg, the Mary Black Foundation, Spartanburg County First Steps, and Quality Counts offers funding for facility upgrades and includes an application process for interested providers. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Table Rock State Park will partially reopen on April 7 with cabins and campsites available and only the lakeside trail open as officials assess safety of other trails. Crews will begin hazard tree removal and path clearing on April 8—officials plan to open more trails as soon as they can ensure visitor safety. The Post and Courier
- ➤ The South Carolina Forestry Commission released its final update on the Table Rock Complex fire, noting that firefighters secured the perimeter, mopped up hotspots, and began suppression repair to stabilize the area. Table Rock State Park will reopen on Monday, April 7—only the Lakeside Trail will be accessible as other trails are evaluated for safety and wi-fi may remain disrupted from wildfire damage. WYFF

- ➤ Pacolet leaders announced they will invest five to ten million dollars to revitalize The Flats and improve access to fishing and kayaking on the Pacolet River. The project includes plans for a boardwalk, picnic and parking areas, a bandshell and zipline and could take five years to complete. WSPA
- ➤ Chuck Wright, the longtime sheriff of Spartanburg County, went on an indefinite leave for medical reasons — his chief deputy took over authority as the office continues to serve residents. Spartanburg County Communications Manager Scottie Kay Blackwell said no further details are available, and state and federal agencies have not released more information. WYFF
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ City Council approved a development agreement with Lat Purser and Associates — their third development in the city — to build at least 80 three-bedroom townhomes on 7.8 acres along S Pine St. and Country Club Rd. The project, valued at more than $19 million and including 10 percent workforce housing, will connect via a new crosswalk to the Daniel Morgan Trail System to improve access to local neighborhoods.
