COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wofford College student Joe Khalil will run 50 miles on April 18 to raise funds and collect supplies for Spartanburg Soup Kitchen and Miracle Hill Ministries. Local residents can also join a service event featuring a 5K run, hygiene stations and a food drive.  The Post and Courier

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A Greenville woman won a discrimination case against BMW and received $389,907 in back pay in early April after a court reviewed her lost earnings. BMW has appealed the ruling and asked for a new trial.  The Post and Courier

ECONOMY NEWS

  • An April 15 report showed the Strait of Hormuz conflict spiked diesel costs, and grocery prices are rising in Spartanburg with coffee, beef, and lettuce up, while eggs + potatoes have dropped. Families now face a 4.3% increase, with weekly bills nearing $254.  Go Upstate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, Lake Hartwell remains 6.59 feet below full level — a sign of ongoing drought affecting Spartanburg and nearby counties, and officials expect extreme dryness with hot temperatures to persist until early summer.  Go Upstate

HEALTH NEWS

  • Eight nurses from Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System were honored (as one of the Palmetto State’s top 100 nurses with the Palmetto Gold Award) for exceptional patient care and leadership. Their recognition highlights a strong commitment to excellent local health services.  Spartanburg.com

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance for a 92-unit townhome development at Country Club Road and Pine Street today, moving the project closer to final approval. Lat Purser and Associates will reserve 10% for workforce housing (with an easement for a welcome sign) as part of the deal.  The Post and Courier
