- ➤ Spartanburg’s Daniel Morgan Trail System will expand by over 8 miles with a new RAISE route running from Arcadia to near the C.C. Woodson Community Center and is funded by a $23.8 million federal grant. Construction will begin in late summer or early fall and the route is expected to open for public use in the fall—this project will better connect the Southside to the wider trail network. - ➤ The Spartanburg Coroner's Office reported that Calvin Stephawn Kennedy Jr (40), who was serving time at Livesay Correctional for drug trafficking, carrying a prohibited weapon and failing to stop for an officer, died shortly after midnight Saturday at Spartanburg Medical Center with no signs of foul play though further tests will be done. - ➤ A 40-year-old inmate, Calvin Stephawn Kennedy Jr.—serving a sentence for failure to stop for an officer, carrying a prohibited weapon, and trafficking—died at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center around 12:40 a.m. Saturday after being taken from Livesay Correctional on Friday for undisclosed health issues, and a forensic autopsy revealed no signs of foul play while further tests are scheduled.
