- ➤ Spartanburg County Council approved tax incentives for NorthMark Strategies who will cut property taxes from 10% to 4%—a move to redevelop the old Kohler plant into a high-performance computing center focused on artificial intelligence, data science, and simulations. The $2.8 billion investment will create 27 high-paying jobs and support 400 to 600 engineering and construction jobs during a year-long renovation—boosting the local workforce and STEM education. - ➤ On April 22, Limestone University's Board of Trustees met to consider its future amid a $6 million shortfall that could force the historic Gaffney campus to close, switch to online-only instruction, or remain a traditional college — a decision that may impact local students and the region’s economy. - ➤ Limestone University’s board met on Tuesday for more than three hours to discuss options to avoid closure. President Nathan Copeland said the board needs more time to decide and warned that on-campus classes may end after this semester—graduation on May 3 will still happen. WSPA

- ➤ The South Carolina Senate voted 33—8 on April 21 to remove State Treasurer Curtis Loftis over a $1.8 billion accounting error, and the House must later deliver a two-thirds vote to finalize his removal. - ➤ State Senate lawmakers are proposing the Medical Informed Consent Act—sponsored by Sen. Shane Martin of Spartanburg—which would stop pharmacists from refusing off-label prescriptions during a state-declared emergency.
