ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Officials in Spartanburg closed East Main Street near Zion Hill Road after a construction worker punctured a fuel line causing a gas leak Monday around 2:45 p.m. — drivers were advised to take alternate routes while Piedmont Natural Gas worked to repair the leak. WYFF
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ NorthMark, building a data center on South Pine Street, said its request for a ninefold power boost (over 450 MW) is part of its design to power thousands of homes without affecting the local grid. Councilmember Mabry and environmental groups said tax breaks were granted without detailing potential air pollution. The Post and Courier
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ South Carolina farmers are opting out of a planting season as rising oil prices and $200-a-acre fertilizer costs driven by ongoing Middle East peace talks make essential inputs too costly. Lawmakers will review a $35 million emergency relief fund before mid-May & future support programs are planned. WYFF
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Fatz Cafe beside the Peachoid in Gaffney was demolished to clear the way for Spartanburg Community College's $50 million expansion. The college plans to build a Spark Center & new academic building on the site, with construction expected to start in the next 3 to 5 years. WYFF
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Spartanburg City Council voted Monday night to move the historic clock tower to Barnet Park — the vote only set the location and did not finalize the design. The city plans to complete the move after addressing downtown development challenges. WYFF
- ➤ South Carolina Attorney General warns of a new synthetic drug called cychlorphine that is linked to one death in the state and over 40 in Tennessee + he has asked the FDA to add it to the controlled substances list to protect local families. Go Upstate
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The South Carolina Department of Public Health declared the seven-month measles outbreak in Spartanburg County over on April 27, after nearly 1,000 cases cost taxpayers $2.1 million. Vaccinations nearly doubled during the outbreak to help control the spread. Go Upstate
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Voting is open until noon April 30 for the Upstate Ingles high school boys athlete of the week, covering performances from April 20—26 across Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson. Finalists include top performers in track, baseball and lacrosse, and the community will help choose the winner. Go Upstate
- ➤ Voting is open until noon on April 30 for choosing the Upstate Ingles high school girls athlete of the week for April 20-26. Finalists include Skylar McKie (Woodmont) and Keanna Tate (Mountain View Prep), among others recognized for winning races at local track meets. Go Upstate
- ➤ South Carolina women's basketball forward Chloe Kitts, sidelined by an ACL injury since April 2025, was seen in rehab drills on April 27 and is expected to return by Nov. 2 for a season opener against Maryland in Paris — coach Staley affirmed her progress. Go Upstate
