EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Spartanburg Community College, Spartanburg School District 3 and USC Upstate have partnered to launch TEACHSpartanburg, the first teacher pathway program in Spartanburg that lets high school students earn an associate's and a bachelor's degree in two years. Today, students will gain hands-on classroom experience through student teaching assignments and mentorship programs in District 3 (a key step to ease the local teacher shortage). Spartanburg.com
- ➤ Students at Limestone University are frustrated as they await a final decision from the board meeting today at the Hines and Riggins Center amid severe financial uncertainty — the school needs $6 million in immediate support. Freshmen and other students expressed concern that funding delays and mixed donation news could force major changes to their academic plans. WSPA
- ➤ Limestone University in Gaffney announced on April 29 that it will end its on-campus and online programs by the end of the current academic semester after failing to secure $6 million in funding—200 supporters pledged $2.1 million during its fundraising campaign. The school will help current students transfer to other colleges and host its final graduation on May 3 at Fullerton Auditorium. The Post and Courier

- ➤ Rachel's Bridge in the Edwin M. Griffin Nature Preserve reopened on April 16 after heavy rains and flooding damaged its structure in March—SPACE repaired the bridge at a cost of $75,000 and stabilized the creek bank. A ribbon cutting to celebrate the work is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. May 16 at 1085 Woodburn Road. The Post and Courier

- ➤ SCDOT will close the SC 290 bridge over I-85 in Spartanburg County at 7 p.m. Friday, May 2, to complete final pavement markings and signal adjustments for its new Diverging Diamond Interchange (a detour using I-85 is in effect) until work is complete (bridge reopening will follow once all repairs are finished).
