- ➤ Downtown Spartanburg is hosting a busy weekend as the Criterium bike races, which began April 30 and continue today with road closures on Main, Broad, Converse, Liberty, Church and Dunbar streets, plus the Cribbs Kitchen Burger Cook-Off is set for May 2 to support Children's Cancer Partners of the Carolinas. - ➤ April in the Upstate was full of vibrant events as local sports, arts festivals and community gatherings took place in Greenville, Anderson, and Spartanburg. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Spartanburg Water is asking Landrum customers to cut back on water use amid severe drought. Residents are urged to repair leaks, install water-saving fixtures, and follow watering schedules—Thursday and Sunday for some and Wednesday and Saturday for others—to help save water. - ➤ Recent thunderstorms provided much-needed rain that lifted the burn ban in 12 Upstate counties beginning Apr. 29 — however, Greenville County and nearby areas remain in extreme drought. Go Upstate
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The state Department of Environmental Services will hold a public hearing on NorthMark data center’s request for increased power after Senator Shane Martin raised concerns about grid reliability, air quality, and water usage. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ French Broad Chocolates issued a recall on several Bette’s Bake Sale products due to a labeling error that switched allergen information on two bonbon tasting guides—items sold both online and in local stores may contain undeclared nuts.
