BUSINESS NEWS

  • Thyssenkrupp Supply Chain Services, Inc. (a company in Spartanburg) announced on Monday that 110 employees will be laid off on July 5 in compliance with the WARN Act, giving workers and local officials a 60-day notice.  WYFF
  • Breeze Airways has announced nonstop flights from GSP to Columbus, Ohio (operating twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays) with one-way fares starting at $49. The new route targets an underserved market and adds regional flight service.  WYFF

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Almost 600 graduates celebrated USC Upstate's outdoor commencement on May 7 at the Main Quad in Spartanburg, with Greenville Mayor Knox White and Chancellor Dr. Bennie Harris present to honor the achievements.  Go Upstate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Despite recent showers, severe drought conditions persist as all 46 counties remain affected, and crops and water supplies continue to be stressed. The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg forecasts mostly sunny skies today & slight rain chances Saturday morning with increased rain expected Monday.  Go Upstate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 8, Rep. William Timmons presented WWII medals to the family of Navy veteran Virgil Keener, who served on the USS Tennessee during Pearl Harbor. His daughter, Kathleen Bergeson accepted the awards on his 105th birthday and raised awareness for Huntington's disease, which led to his early death.  Go Upstate

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, warm, breezy spring weather keeps ragweed and dust pollen high in Spartanburg, so residents are advised to take allergy medicine and keep windows closed—especially from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Scattered showers are forecast May 9–11 to offer temporary relief.  Go Upstate

SPORTS NEWS

  • High school girls from Dorman, Spartanburg, and Mauldin qualified for the SCHSL state championships in Columbia from May 14—16. The Class 5A Division 1 meet held May 8 at Dorman produced champions like Jordayn Ratliff and Akyra Webster, and additional qualifiers will compete today.  Go Upstate
