  • Izzy, a 10-month-old Jack Russell-Chihuahua mix who is spayed and microchipped, was featured as Pet of the Week and became available for adoption as of Monday at the Spartanburg Humane Society at 150 Dexter Road. The $95 adoption fee covers six nights boarding at Southport Kennel + five days daycare at Hounds Town + six months of heartworm prevention and an engraved tag from Paisley Paw.  WSPA
  • Several Spartanburg nonprofits will mark five years at Northside Station by hosting a block party at Hub City Farmers Market this weekend from 4 to 7 and a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 16 at 10 a.m. at 501 Howard Street, Suite A—organizations including BirthMatters, Access Health, Regenesis, Wofford College Community Sustainability, and Northside Development Group plan the events to boost community health and academic support.  WSPA

  • An 18-year-old USC student left Spartanburg on May 8 to return to school in Columbia and has not been seen since; he was last seen wearing a white T-shirt + black sweater with neon green inside + blue jeans, and police ask anyone with information to call the Columbia Police Department.  WYFF

  • Free outdoor concerts will be held across the Upstate in parks and community spaces as cities like Spartanburg, Greenville, Anderson, and Clemson host events with schedules running from mid-May through August — local artists will perform a range of music from rock to classical to engage residents and support local fundraisers.  Go Upstate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wofford College president Nayef Samhat announced Monday that he will step down at the end of the 2025-26 academic year, leaving the college in a strong position with improved enrollment and expanded facilities—efforts that included a record $470 million fundraising campaign. The board of trustees will launch a national search to name his successor by May 2026.  WYFF
