CRIME NEWS

  • A Spartanburg man, 28-year-old Tyleek Johnson, was sentenced to 55 years for double murder and related charges from a 2020 robbery that led to the deaths of Kelli Curran and Timothy Thompson II, with additional convictions for armed robbery, burglary, and weapons offenses to be served concurrently.  WSPA
  • Jessica Strachan, 31, from Spartanburg County pleaded guilty on May 14 to murdering her former boyfriend Devanta Alzondrae Griffin after his body was found near Roebuck in 2022—she was sentenced to 35 years in prison with credit for 1,127 days served.  Go Upstate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students across the Upstate are set to finish school as summer nears—Spartanburg County schools will close on Friday, May 23 while other districts conclude classes later in May or early June.  Go Upstate

SPORTS NEWS

  • J.L. Mann boys tennis won their fourth straight Class AAAAA state championship—finishing a perfect 27-0 season—after beating Wando 5-1 on May 16 at the Carolina Indoor Tennis Center in Columbia.  Go Upstate
  • Former Spartanburg Methodist baseball coach Tim Wallace died May 16 at age 64 after a nine-month fight with brain cancer—he coached for 34 years, winning 1,351 games and earning hall of fame honors.  Go Upstate
