CULTURE NEWS

  • Country singer Randy Travis will perform his More Life Tour on Saturday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium (385 N. Church St.), where his longtime touring band and vocalist James Dupre will join him to play his hit songs.  Spartanburg.com
  • Hub City Bookshop is hosting a zine-making workshop on Saturday, May 23 (from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) at 186 W. Main St. A $10 fee covers a zine demonstration, printed materials and a drink from the adjacent Coffee Bar.  Spartanburg.com

ECONOMY NEWS

  • NorthMark data center, under construction off S. Pine Street near the old Kohler plant, will begin the first stage in the third quarter and create around 150 jobs, adding millions in tax revenue — while the state reviews its request to expand power generation.  The Post and Courier
  • According to Census data, four Upstate communities in Spartanburg + Greenville counties rank among South Carolina’s fastest-growing cities with Woodruff adding 868 residents at a 16.8% growth rate. Greer, Fountain Inn, and Mauldin are also seeing significant gains that add to the region’s appeal.  The Post and Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The NAACP urges Black athletes, fans, and donors to boycott Clemson and South Carolina athletic programs until fair congressional maps are restored amid redistricting that reduces Black voter power — the boycott covers public colleges in eight states and was announced on May 19.  Go Upstate

  • Southside Christian's CJ Aubuchon hit two homers as the baseball team beat Chapman, 12-4, in the 3A Upper State final today — putting them on track to chase a fifth consecutive state title.  Go Upstate
  • Southside Christian baseball set a season home run record with 26 homers as they won the Upper State championship game on May 20 at Sabre Park — CJ Aubuchon hit two home runs and the team will host a best-of-three state series on May 23.  Go Upstate
