  • Spartanburg Community College is hosting Military Appreciation Weekend at Fifth Third Park on Sunday, May 24 at 6:35 p.m. to offer fans a chance to take a veteran to the ball game, enjoy in-game tributes plus patriotic ceremonies with post-game fireworks marking the celebration.  Go Upstate

  • Spartanburg Art Museum is showing Jeff Whipple: The Wows of the Nows, a fifty-year retrospective on view through Aug. 28 that surveys work from 1976 to 2026 (free admission Tuesday through Saturday).  Spartanburg.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dorman High celebrated its largest graduating class in South Carolina with 904 graduates on May 20 at Dorman Cavalier Stadium in Roebuck, where principal Bryant Roberson highlighted the historic milestone and valedictorian Clay Ollinger will study Biomedical Engineering at Clemson University (Spartanburg County School District Six).  Go Upstate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Spartanburg Water is asking residents to conserve water amid a severe drought, even as a data center on Pine Street (using 460,000 gallons per day) is set to start operations later this year. Customers are urged to follow specific outdoor watering schedules and limit nonessential uses to reduce evaporation.  The Post and Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina law says people aged 16 and older can buy and use consumer fireworks but bans items like M-80s and bottle rockets, and prohibits fireworks near churches, hospitals, public beaches & gas stations. Residents planning Memorial Day celebrations should check local rules before purchasing fireworks.  Go Upstate

SPORTS NEWS

  • Spartanburg County Parks and Recreation is hosting softball and baseball tournaments over Memorial Weekend with games scheduled for May 23-24 at North Spartanburg Park in Boiling Springs and Tyger River Park in Duncan, attracting teams and spectators who may boost local business traffic.  Spartanburg.com
  • Today, the Hub City Spartanburgers start Memorial Day weekend at Fifth Third Park. On Saturday, they will play as the Spartan Regiment to honor Revolutionary War soldiers with a reenactment between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. and hold a Super Fireworks Show on Sunday for America’s 250th anniversary.  Spartanburg.com
