  • South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster appointed Chief Deputy Jeffery F. Stephens as the new sheriff of Spartanburg County after former sheriff Chuck Wright resigned. Stephens, who has served with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office since 2011—he began his career locally—will serve until a special election is held later this year.  WYFF
  • Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright resigned after taking an indefinite leave for medical reasons and returning to work on Tuesday — May 20. Spartanburg County Council Chairman Manning Lynch confirmed the resignation and said officials are working to learn more.  WYFF
