ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ One person who was injured in a single-vehicle wreck on May 9 on Coopertown Road near Cowpens Clifton Road died Friday at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center—state highway patrol and the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash. WSPA
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Eastside girls soccer beat Chapin 3-2 on May 24 at Memorial Stadium when Payton Nutzman scored in overtime to secure the Eagles' third straight state title; the win marked the team's fifth consecutive overtime victory this season. Go Upstate
- ➤ Riverside won its fifth consecutive SCHSL state championship on May 24th with a 3-1 win over Lucy Beckham—overcoming many injuries this season. Coach Scott Columbia said junior Will Knight scored two goals and Gavin Weidman added one as the Warriors secured the title. Go Upstate
- ➤ On May 24, the No. 1 seed USC Upstate Spartans played the Big South championship game against the No. 3 seed Charleston Southern Buccaneers at Truist Point in High Point — the winner earned an NCAA tournament berth with a tie-breaker game set if the Spartans lost. The Spartans had swept Charleston Southern in the regular season and won 11 of their last 12 games. Go Upstate
