- ➤ Spartanburg and Greenville park departments and community groups have launched Park Hop for free outdoor summer fun across 23 parks—participants sign up online, visit parks, and answer clues to earn points. The event will also award prizes at summer's end as playdates at four parks add extra points. WSPA
- ➤ 7NEWS is teaming with Ingles, Bath Fitter, Davis Services and Mattress Max Furniture to host a summer food drive that will help feed local families in need—donations will go to food pantries in Rutherfordton, Spartanburg, Blacksburg, and Anderson with drop-offs scheduled for Tuesday, June 24 at Ingles in Forest City, Tuesday, July 8 at Ingles in Spartanburg, Tuesday, July 23 at Ingles in Gaffney and Tuesday, July 30 at Ingles in Anderson. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Carolina lawmakers approved a $14.7 billion budget on May 28 that cuts the state income tax rate from 6.2% to 6.0%, increases teacher salaries from $47,000 to $48,500, funds school resource officers for every public school, & raises legislators’ monthly in-district expense reimbursements from $1,000 to $2,500 amid criticism from some members. The package sets aside $200 million for bridge replacement plus $35 million for storm repairs and includes a Senate move to override Gov. McMaster’s veto of a gun possession measure, which will remain in effect without House support. Go Upstate
- ➤ Under former Sheriff Chuck Wright, deputies were sworn in with an incomplete oath until interim Sheriff Jeffery Stephens noticed the error when he took office on May 23. Stephens fixed the mistake by re-administering the complete oath to all deputies on May 27—ensuring they now follow state law exactly. The Post and Courier
