CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Greenville County deputies fatally shot Johnny Andrew Collins Jr. (51) in Greer on May 29 at 12:11 p.m. after he allegedly presented a weapon during an arrest attempt on outstanding warrants following his escape from home detention in October, and five deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave. - ➤ Spartanburg County officials said that nighttime road work on U.S. 176 between Pine Street and Asheville Highway will begin June 2 and cause lane closures and delays between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.—the work will continue until fall. WSPA
- ➤ Spartanburg County deputies were sworn in incorrectly by omitting part of the required oath under former Sheriff Chuck Wright; Interim Sheriff Jeffery Stephens corrected the error by re-swearing them with the full oath—only cases handled before the correction may be affected. WSPA
