ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The US Geological Survey recorded two small earthquakes in Union County Friday evening. A 1.8 quake hit at 6:05 p.m. with a depth of 4.2 miles and a 1.9 quake struck at 6:22 p.m. with a depth of 1 mile in Cross Anchor — 23 miles southeast of Spartanburg.  WYFF
  • After 2 to 4 inches of rain fell on Memorial Day weekend, severe drought conditions still affect the Upstate, and residents in Spartanburg are asked to conserve water. Officials say more sustained rainfall is needed to end the prolonged dry spell.  The Post and Courier

  • The Dorman baseball team lost 5-0 to James Island in the SCHSL Class 5A Division 1 state championship series on May 30 at River Bluff High School. Coach Jack Jolly praised his team's season and encouraged them to learn from the loss.  Go Upstate
  • Dorman baseball lost 8-6 to James Island on May 29 in Game 2 of the Class 5A-D1 state championship series — forcing a winner-take-all Game 3 on May 30 at River Bluff High School in Lexington.  Go Upstate
  • USC Upstate baseball upset Oklahoma State for its first NCAA Tournament win and then faced Alabama (No. 1 seed) in the Tuscaloosa Regional on Saturday, May 30 at 7 p.m. ET, marking a historic run.  Go Upstate
