- ➤ Representatives from Spartanburg Academic Movement’s Out-of-School Time Collaborative, Summer Shakedown, Anderson County Public Library and Kidding Around Greenville met to plan ways to prevent summer learning loss—sharing strategies to keep students engaged during the season. WYFF
- ➤ A new $15 million planetarium learning center in Spartanburg is nearing completion and will open in late summer 2025 with a grand opening celebration scheduled for Oct. 17. The facility, located near the county library headquarters on Church & Broad streets, will offer advanced screens, classroom space and a Foucault pendulum calibrated by Clemson University. - ➤ Spartanburg County will elect a new sheriff later this year to replace former Sheriff Chuck Wright with four candidates who bring many years of law enforcement experience—filing begins on June 13, the primary is on August 5, and the special election is on November 4. - ➤ South Carolina passed a new golf cart law on May 22 that sets rules for driving golf carts on public highways. The law requires drivers to get a permit decal, proof of ownership, liability insurance, and a valid license, and local governments may set extra rules—such as allowing carts only on roads with a 35 mph speed limit.
