BMW Charity Pro-Am golf tournament has raised over $16 million for local charities over 25 years+ the event is underway until June 8 at Thornblade Club in Greenville with Folds of Honor earning about $250,000 to help fund educational scholarships for military families.

Gail Lott and James Edinger from Orangeburg donated beachfront property worth $8 million to VCOM–Carolinas to fund need-based scholarships and campus improvements for students who plan to serve rural areas.

Their gift supports technology upgrades and nutrition education programs to help ease physician shortages in underserved communities.

U.S. News and World Report ranked the 11 best places to live in South Carolina for 2025–26, with Mount Pleasant as the top choice and Greenville and Florence also earning high marks; Spartanburg placed eighth with a median home value of $207,734 and an average commute of 17 minutes. The study used data from government and local sources to compare affordability, lifestyle, and natural beauty across the state.

On Friday, community members, celebrities and professional golfers gathered at Thornblade Club for the 25th BMW Charity Pro-Am+ a tournament that raised funds for local charities while offering a chance to enjoy a day of golf in their backyard.

Organizers said the event has donated over $16 million over 25 years to groups like Mobile Meals of Spartanburg and PAL, with notable participants such as Furman alumnus Clint Dempsey joining the celebration.
