CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Organizers have planned several Juneteenth events across the Upstate to honor African American independence—ranging from a Juneteenth Royal Gala in Greenville on June 13 to a Spartanburg Jubilee Parade at Carver Middle on June 21. Other activities include a 5K run for veterans, a homeownership seminar, car and bike shows, and a soul food festival in Fountain Inn that showcase local culture and community partnerships. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Limestone University’s closure forced 50 high school students in the Scholars Academy dual enrollment program to move to Gaffney High School for the upcoming school year. The students will complete their degrees at Spartanburg Community College with daily transportation provided and a dedicated space set up to support their studies. WSPA
- ➤ Natalie Ruth, a former Limestone employee, sued the college saying she and more than 50 workers were laid off without the 60 days notice required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. The suit follows the decision to end courses after a board meeting in April and the school’s closing on May 1—lawyer T. Ryan Langley represents her. Go Upstate

- ➤ Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger announced his bid for sheriff on Monday—saying he will restore trust in law enforcement and support deputies—and plans to file when the filing period opens Friday. Early voting for the primary begins July 21 and the special election to choose a new sheriff is set for November 4. WSPA
