CRIME NEWS

  • Former inmate Joshua Matthew Wolfe of Spartanburg pleaded guilty this week to trafficking methamphetamine, marijuana with intent to distribute and furnishing contraband to a prisoner and was sentenced to six years while former correctional officer Kevin Leroy Howard pleaded guilty in March after attempting to hide drugs in his dinner and was sentenced to four years — officials said the two worked together to smuggle drugs into a state prison.  WYFF

  • The South Carolina DMV warned residents that scammers are sending fake texts about unpaid tickets that threaten to suspend driving privileges — advising people not to click any links and to delete the messages.  WYFF
  • Gov. Henry McMaster, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division and the South Carolina Emergency Response Team held the state’s annual hurricane tabletop exercise on June 5 that simulated evacuation routes, sheltering options and recovery plans—showing that both coastal and inland areas must be ready for hurricanes.  Spartanburg.com
  • Candidate filing for Spartanburg County Sheriff opens Friday as nine candidates seek to replace former Sheriff Chuck Wright — the primary is set for August 5 with a likely runoff on August 19 and a special election scheduled for November 4.  WYFF
