- ➤ George Bunnie Moore's headstone, from his 1936 death in North Carolina, was discovered during construction on Florida Avenue in Spartanburg and is held safe by county coroner Rusty Clevenger. Family members are working with local Masonic officials+ to have the headstone transferred to a local lodge+ so it can be preserved for future visits. The Post and Courier
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Pacolet woman named Mikaila S. Mitchell, 32, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly forging timesheet signatures and falsifying records to claim care for two Medicaid recipients between August 1 and January 25 — her case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s office and she faces up to 13 years in prison if convicted. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Spartanburg leaders will unveil the Southside Cultural Monument on Saturday, June 14 at 10 a.m. at the corner of South Converse Street and Hudson Barksdale Boulevard. The monument—featuring panels on Black history and interactive displays—aims to honor the past of the Southside and will be followed by a musical performance and reception. Go Upstate
