COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Glendale Nature Park is now open in Spartanburg County, giving residents 945 acres and over three miles of unpaved trails for hiking — county leaders developed the multi-million dollar project near the Glendale Mill area and said they will add paved trails later.  WSPA
  • Dozens of 7NEWS employees volunteered at Middle Tyger Community Center in Lyman on Wednesday to mark Nexstar’s Founder’s Day of Caring. They cooked meals, packed food items and did yard work—also spending time with youth campers at a nearby church day camp.  WSPA

CRIME NEWS

  • Firefighters found a body near a burning vehicle late Tuesday at 11:55 p.m. on Woodburn Road—Pinecrest Road in Spartanburg, and investigators identified the victim as 34-year-old Mequez Bernard Geer while launching a suspicious death investigation.  WYFF
  • An upstate musician was shot on I-85 on June 15 when a white four-door sedan with tinted windows followed his car and fired six shots—two of which hit him—leaving his vehicle riddled with holes while deputies investigate the case.  WSPA

  • On June 18, Parella’s Pals featured (Wonderful World of Waffles) with 10 year old Khenti G (a student from Berea Elementary School) serving waffles.  WYFF

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery and is celebrated today even though it is not a state holiday; the Spartanburg city office is closed while Greenville and Spartanburg County offices remain open. Federal buildings—including the U.S. Postal Service—and major banks will be closed, but many retailers like Target and Walmart will operate.  Go Upstate
