  • Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q will soon open a new restaurant in Spartanburg at 106 East Blackstock Road—formerly the site of O’Charley’s—offering a menu of pulled pork, beef brisket, smoked turkey breast, and chicken. The eatery has not yet announced its opening date.  WSPA

CRIME NEWS

  • Spartanburg Police and the county Coroner’s Office are investigating the suspicious death of 34-year-old Mequez Bernard Geer, of Anderson, who was found dead next to a burning car near Pinecrest Road and Woodburn Road at 11:55 p.m. on June 17—officials ask anyone with information to call the police or Crime Stoppers.  Go Upstate

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors warn that with heat indexes expected to hit triple digits next week, anyone spending time outdoors must stay hydrated and take breaks as heat exhaustion and stroke can set in quickly when temperatures rise above 90°F. Greenville Rescue Mission will open a cool shelter from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on hot days when temperatures exceed 95°F — a service for people in Greenville, Spartanburg and Cherokee.  WSPA
