- ➤ Spartanburg city leaders announced plans to relocate and rebuild the Bethlehem Center—an almost century-old hub on Highland Avenue that has primarily served African American families since the 1950s—into a modern facility at Highland and Daniel Morgan Avenue after the city donated land in late May. A multi‐million dollar fundraising campaign is underway under the Movement 2030 plan, and no construction start date has been set. WSPA
- ➤ The City of Spartanburg will host its annual Red, White and Boom celebration on July 4 at Fifth Third Park downtown alongside a Winston-Salem Dash game that starts at 4:35 p.m., with ticket holders given first come first served access to field seating. After the game, the free public event will continue with fireworks scheduled to begin at 9:15 p.m. and patrons are allowed to bring blankets — chairs are not permitted. Spartanburg.com
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources noted that three of the six native venomous snakes, including copperheads, are found in the Upstate. Doctors from Prisma Health and Fetch Specialty advise that if bitten, people and pet owners must get immediate emergency care for CroFab treatment—avoiding harmful home remedies. WSPA
- ➤ Bon Secours announced Thursday that it reached a contract agreement with UnitedHealthcare to avoid any patient care disruptions as the previous deal was set to expire after June 30. The new agreement includes higher reimbursement rates and keeps 30,000 UnitedHealthcare customers in-network at Bon Secours facilities (hospitals, urgent care clinics, and doctors). WSPA
- ➤ Bon Secours and UnitedHealthcare reached an agreement Thursday that will keep 30,000 Upstate patients in-network when the deal takes effect on July 1—this contract covers all UnitedHealthcare South Carolina plans including commercial, Medicare Advantage, Exchange and Veterans Affairs. WYFF
- ➤ Spartanburg Water said a boil water advisory issued Monday after a large water main break that caused low pressure in Spartanburg, Inman and Wellford was repealed after repairs were completed. Water samples analyzed by a certified lab confirmed the water meets state and federal standards—officials lifted the advisory. WSPA
