COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Spartanburg’s long-standing Bethlehem Center, which has served community and youth services since 1950, is set to relocate after city leaders donated land at Highland and Daniel Morgan in late May. A multi-million dollar fundraising campaign is underway as part of the Movement 2030 plan to boost education and economic mobility.  WSPA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A federal report said on June 14 that a twin engine Beechcraft carrying a South Carolina couple crashed near Horry County when the pilot tried to avoid heavy rain and wind by changing course—killing Philip Porter, 69, and his wife Cheryle, 66.  WSPA

CRIME NEWS

  • Three people were arrested after more than 22 vehicles were broken into in Fairwood between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on June 16—items like ammunition, a cellphone, and money were reported stolen—and authorities say Kayne Couture Fleming, 19, of Union and two juveniles from Greenville and Spartanburg are in custody.  WYFF
  • A deputy on an unrelated call spotted a person carrying a knife near Reidville Road and Nazareth Church Road and shot the suspect who was then taken to a local hospital for treatment—state law enforcement is investigating the incident.  WSPA
  • Union County law enforcement arrested 19-year-old Kayne Couture Fleming and a 17-year-old female suspect in connection to car break-ins after deputies received over 16 calls on June 16 from Fairwood Neighborhood, which led to 22 vehicles being targeted — reports show stolen items included ammunition, cash, and a cellphone — and the juvenile was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice while Fleming is held at the Union County Detention Center.  WSPA
