CRIME NEWS

  • Officers responded to a shooting at a Union home on May 27 where Jackie Cannon was fatally shot by someone wearing a ski mask; on July 2, a 25-mile chase led to the arrest of Joseph Demetrius Jennings when his vehicle collided with a cruiser — his bond was denied.  WYFF
  • Deputies responded on Friday at 10:48 a.m. to a traffic stop on US 221 and Thompson Road in Chesnee when a car passenger with an active warrant, identified as Timothy Wayne Sanders Jr., refused to exit his vehicle and showed a knife—after an hour of negotiations he left the car, hit his head, and was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center before being transferred to the detention center.  WSPA
  • At 10:48 a.m. on July 4, Spartanburg County Sheriff's deputies stopped a vehicle on Highway 221 and Thompson Road in Chesnee when passenger Timothy Wayne Sanders Jr. who had an active warrant for petit larceny enhanced pulled a knife and threatened to harm himself — after over an hour of negotiations he agreed to exit, hit his head against the patrol car partition causing a laceration, and was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center before being booked into detention — authorities said.  WYFF

HEALTH NEWS

  • BirthMatters in Spartanburg will host the Healthy Beginnings Summit on July 19 at Wofford to educate young expectant mothers about their rights and care options, plus work to reduce higher maternal death rates among Black women. The event will offer doula support and connect mothers with local services that aid both physical and emotional health.  WSPA
