ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Harbison State Forest has been closed since Monday after a teen was cornered by two dogs on Friday and a man was attacked Saturday—he sustained non-life-threatening injuries—while authorities set traps and police continue patrolling until noon today to reassess safety. WYFF

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The South Carolina Department of Revenue indicted 31 people—mostly from the Upstate—on July 16 for tax fraud after they illegally claimed tax credits for milk production and ammonia additives from 2021 to 2024, resulting in over $1 million in refunds. WSPA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The NAACP hosted a forum Tuesday night at CC Woodson Community Center — where sheriff candidates explained plans to fill the vacancy left by former Sheriff Chuck Wright — and more than 100 community members attended while NAACP President Michael Brown called for increased representation and a citizens’ review board. The primary is set for Aug. 5 with a possible runoff on Aug. 19, and early voting begins Monday, July 21. WSPA
- ➤ South Carolina will enforce a new law that requires drivers to keep their phones away while driving starting September 1, with a 180-day grace period where police will educate first-time offenders with a $100 fine. Traffic officer Michael Parris said a second offense will incur a $200 fine and two license points—steps aimed at reducing distracted driving. WSPA
- ➤ Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Congressman Ro Khanna will visit South Carolina this week to connect with voters ahead of the early primary. Beshear will speak at the AFL—CIO convention in Greenville and meet with local party leaders while Khanna holds town halls in Goose Creek and Greenville to discuss Medicaid cuts and federal policies.
