- ➤ Lajohn Devarus Gaither pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter for the killing of Franklin Hines Jr. in 2022 — he is serving a 28-year sentence after Hines was found shot near Cross Anchor Road in Woodruff. WSPA
- ➤ The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that a bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene on US 176 near Old Furnace Road in Spartanburg — the call came in at 2:45 a.m. and authorities have not released the victim's identity. WSPA
- ➤ A bicyclist died in a hit-and-run on U.S. 176 near Old Furnace Road in Spartanburg County around 2:45 a.m. Thursday — troopers are now searching for the unknown vehicle that left the scene. WYFF
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Effective this school year, teacher starting salaries increased by $1,500 after changes passed at the State House on July 1 — a move meant to help keep teachers in classrooms — while a new Educator Assistance Act with clear contract terms took effect, and Governor McMaster said he will raise starting pay to $50,000 next year.
