CRIME NEWS

  • Spartanburg County troopers charged Ricardo Perez with hit-and-run with death after his vehicle hit bicyclist Elvis Oral Strachan on U.S. 176 near Old Furnace Road on July 17 at 2:45 a.m.—Strachan was declared dead at the scene around 3:30 a.m.  WYFF

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senator Graham confirmed that Desiree Gomez, an assistant principal at Lyman Elementary, her husband, and their 18-month-old daughter Salma were safely extracted from Syria yesterday—caught amid intense fighting—and his office said the U.S. State Department and Embassy in Jordan advised on next steps while the Grey Bull Rescue Foundation led the rescue effort. This operation brought the family home to Spartanburg, where officials continue to review travel advisories.  WYFF
