  • Tasha Cobbs Leonard, a Greenville County resident and three-time Grammy winner, released her first studio album called 'Tasha' on July 25 — the record shows her struggles and faith while blending gospel with personal storytelling. She works at The Purpose Place Church in Spartanburg and will start the Whole and Free Tour in October with special guests.  Go Upstate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Meteorologist Dale Gilbert says the record-breaking heat continues with highs near 100 and feels-like temperatures near 110 through midweek—relief comes Friday when a front will bring showers and thunderstorms.  WYFF

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Representative Ralph Norman announced his bid for governor on July 27 — former Congress member Mark Meadows joined him and said Norman would work to clean up Columbia. His announcement marks a new chapter in the race for the state leadership.  WSPA
  • Andy Clark is one of nine candidates running for Spartanburg County Sheriff and said his work in neighborhood patrol and tech support prepares him to lead the office. He will set up evaluations, team training and a town hall—efforts to improve morale and update pay scales—while running in the GOP primary on Aug. 5 and the special election on Nov. 4.  Go Upstate

HEALTH NEWS

  • Emergency cooling shelters are open in Spartanburg County to help residents handle record high temperatures and will remain available until Thursday. The volunteer-run shelter at 701 Saxon Avenue operates from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.—offering a safe space during the ongoing heatwave.  WSPA
